IDPH will be coming Spirit Lake, IA on October 26 to teach one session of the Stop The Bleed – train-the-trainer course.
This course will train individuals using the Bleeding Control Course (B-Con) endorsed by the American College of Surgeons as part of the national Stop the Bleed campaign. In this train-the-trainer session participants will learn the B-Con material and be trained to train other individuals using the course. The B-Con course is designed to teach the lay public how to recognize life-threatening bleeding and appropriate ways to stop bleeding. Participants will walk through the ABCs of Bleeding. Each participant will demonstrate knowledge of tourniquet application and wound packing through skill stations. Participants of the train the trainer course will also be provided resource materials associated with the B-Con course and the Stop the Bleed campaign.
Course Objectives:
- Discuss identification of life threatening bleeding and bleeding control measures.
- Identify bleeding control measures using simulated materials including tourniquets and wound packing models.
- Review the necessary knowledge and resources to train qualified personnel to be trainers, as well as, educate the public on bleeding control measures.
Who Should Attend: There are requirements in order to take this course.
- You must have one of the following certifications: EMR, EMT, AEMT, Paramedic, RN, Nurse Practitioner, PA, MD, DO, or Athletic Trainer.
